Tagline: Every Child is Special

Taare Zameen Par (TZP) is an exceptionally simple movie made beautifully. Though I first thought this to be a children’s movie, the audience in the theatre were mostly adults. Some bringing their children along. The movie strikes great to the grown-up audience as well. This is a movie for adults told through a child’s point of view.

The story of TZP deals with the life of an eight year old boy Ishaan Awasthi who finds it difficult to keep pace with his mates in academics. And rather engages himself in his world of illusion, painting, and observing things around him. Matter gets worse when his teachers advice his parents to send him to some other school where he can be taken care of. Once in the new school, Ishaan finds it not too different from his old school. But Ram Shankar Nikumbh a new art teacher understands the problem with Ishaan and helps him overcome it in his own terms.

The movie presents no big stars, except for Aamir (who only appears in the second-half of the movie), no foreign locales, and no huge sets, that go into the making of a regular hindi movie. But solely rides on simple good script, imaginative direction, good background music and cinematography, and off-course exceptionally brilliant performance from Darsheel Safary.

And through this movie Aamir also proves that he can not only make successful big-budget movies like “Lagaan” but is also capable of making equally successful low-budget movies.
